Kylemore Abbey is a Benedictine monastery founded in 1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle, in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. The abbey was founded for Benedictine Nuns who fled Belgium in World War I. Construction was completed in 1871; it was originally built as a private home for the family of Mitchell Henry, a wealthy doctor from London whose family was involved in textile manufacturing in Manchester, England. In County Clare on the western coast of Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher rise 120 m (390 ft) above the sea. The cliffs get their name from a fort that once stood there; it was demolished in 1808. Perched at the top is O'Brien's Tower, built in 1835 as a tourist lookout.
